I could start this letter to you anywhere in my lifetime and I will always come back to the same place. Mom, you gave of yourself your whole life. A model of consistency, you set an example of caring for the fellow man and walked in those shoes your entire lifetime.
You tirelessly gave, and as a family we always felt fulfilled and loved. You were a nurturer; anyone stopping by would leave with a full tummy. There was always room for one more plate at the table. An unannounced weekend rivaled the best any Bed and Breakfast could offer.
It didn’t matter what was going on in my life, I could always find comfort and peace under your roof. With you and Dad, you were a supreme safety net.
You truly loved life. You taught me to look to everyone’s good side. I think a little of your green thumb rubbed off on me too. I know that made you smile. I learned a strong sense of fairness observing you through your life’s examples. With you and Dad I learned the meaning of good hard work and the importance of making good life choices.
I know I didn’t thank you enough along the way, but I know you always felt fulfilled. I didn’t tell you I loved you enough; hopefully a lifetime of my actions spoke those words to you.
No longer worry Mom, all my scrapes are healed from your attentive repairs. It is now time for your pains to turn to joy and re-unite with Dad; let him know that I love you both beyond words.
While I am empty and mourn for now, it’s only because I loved you so much. Healing will be soon for me though, knowing that my journey continues with a beacon of light from your heart.
All my love, your son.
